Just wanted eveyone over here to know that I have released a small tool to speed up converting the renamer rom-sets from .zip's to .7z's. 7-zip is great for collectors looking to squeeze every last bit of space from whatever media they are backing upto.
It is very simple to use download the program, uncompress it, and put your havelist (GBAHave.txt, GBChave.txt, or WSHave.txt) into the directory with the rom set double click on repack.exe. By default it will not delete the .zip's once it is done but if you want start the program with the command line switch '-delete' and the zips will be removed for you.
This program is in very early development so use at your own risk. Program assumes roms are zipped when renamed, romfiles are renamed within the zip, and that no extra files are in the zip.
You can grab it here!

As far as I understand, your tool unzips single ROM zip files and compresses the ROM again as 7z?
Take a look at GoodMerge, it takes all ROMs that belong together (regional releases, bad/fixed/overdumps, ...) and compresses them into a single 7z file.
Since the ROMs inside an archive do not differ that much, the compression ratio is amazing - you can almost fit the complete N64 GoodSet (35 GB uncompressed) on a single DVD-R, and all other GoodSets on one DVD-R as well. |

| Goodtools won't work with the *Ren sets because they don't work on the same naming guidelines. As for this new tool, this can also be done using several other methods and by pointlessly recompressing your roms to 7zip (a format which you can't really use with emulators) you won't be saving much space anyways. |

Yeah there are a couple ways you could recompress them... I put this together mostly becuase I wanted to get the max amount on to my archive dvd9's and recompressing just helps fit more stuff. It is true that most emulators don't support 7zip but since it is for backups I personally have no problem uncompressing something I want to play off it...
(*Sizes according to explorer on WinXP)
WSxRen Rom set as .7z - 179 MB (188,690,432 bytes)
WSxRen Rom set as .zip - 214 MB (224,825,344 bytes)
GBC Romset as zips - 580 MB (608,665,600 bytes)
GBC Romset as 7zips - 476 MB (499,666,944 bytes)
As you can see the space savings isn't huge but like I said it's really just a matter of personal preference.
Oh and Merry X-Mas all!
