About 10 years ago, I got this crappy handheld thing at Arco/AMPM for about $10 USD that was supposed to be like 1000 games in one. In reality, it only had about 13 games and a ton of slight variations (cars move slightly faster, different pieces available, etc).

It was grey, had a black and white screen with bigass pixels (about like a TI-83 Plus), and was a bit bigger than a DS phat. Games included a racing game, a Tetris clone, a space invaders clone, some weird tanks game, and others that I can't remember. I think it may also have had a basic four-function calculator, though I may be mistaken about this.

Anyway, I lost it years ago, and I'm interested in reliving days gone by. Does anybody know where I could find this device, or one like it, for sale?

With these kind of things it's always like this: When you find it you know why you lost it!

My first guess was one of http://members.home.nl/roeloftenbrink/computers/handheld.htm#Brick, but I think those might be too recent.

Those brick ones look about right, except what I was thinking of was horizontally oriented and had a screen that flips closed.

However, using that page as a guide for search terms, I came across this, which is about what I'm looking for.

edit: I'm bidding on this, which seems to be about what I was looking for. It says 2001, and I had thought I was looking for 1998, but I may have been mistaken about the time. Either way, this one appears almost identical to what I was thinking of except for the logo on it.

Thanks for the help!

Be sure to also send one to Dr. Ashens.

Nah. It's not as bad as the ones he usually reviews, and I'm too cheap and unemployed to buy another one (the others on ebay all seem to be asking for much higher prices).

While they come in many forms and shapes, they all seem to run the same games with the same little "OS". I've played many like it and they have the same hardware.

Funny, I believe I had the exact same thing, only in green. I think I still have it somewhere, probably buried with the rest of the crap under my bed. I'd mail it to you, but my bed is in Australia and I'm in the US for the next couple months.

I also had a really crappy "Game Child", which had roughly the form factor of the original Game Boy and was as bad as the name suggests.

I figured that they all had the same collection of games. The only thing is, nostalgia goggles work better when it's the same color and form factor. Wink
