| They are from a totally different set of roms to the GBA-Renamer set, they look more like GoodGBA. GBA-Renamer will only rename the roms on the pocketheaven release list and some occasional variants thereof. |

No, that's not the MissList... that's a "dir" of the Unknown Roms directory...
Those are the ROMs that GBARenamer didn't know were GBA titles....
Just wondering why it's not seeing them...
It's seeing the other 400+ I have... |

Since you ignored me the first time, i'll say it again.

I wasn't saying that was your miss list, i was saying the reason that it ignored the roms was because they aren't part of the gba-renamer set. It won't rename any files which aren't in it's database, and they most likely aren't. |

So, your telling me that the most up to date GBARenamer DAT file is missing over 60 ROMs that you can go out and buy...
I didn't ignore you, I was saying that these are perfectly good ROMs, that play fine, and are able to be bought in your local WalMart. Not sure why GBARenamer is missing all these ROMs... even though it has newer ones in it's database... |

Well, from what I can gather: yes, it is missing over 60 ROMs of retail cartridges. You can only assume that (for some reason) those games haven't been added to the "pocketheaven release list."

most of those roms are produced by No-Intro Dat they remove patches and intros and make clean roms that GoodGBA renamer uses.
I assume this because of the [!] <- mean its a clean working dump. |

I was researching this a little, and found a nice program called GBArms.
I love this program so much! Not only does it tell you what ROM's you have, it has a really nice GUI that displays the box art, title screen, and a screen shot of the game you are currently viewing...
Takes a bit to download all the images, but worth it!
I hope that GBARenamer is updated soon, would like to have all my ROM's named correctly... |

Thats simply amazing! Anyways, there is a GUI for the GBA-Renamer set too, i write it. Much like GBArms it also displays boxart, title screens and in-game screens.
GBA-Renamer will be updated again when the release list is next updated but i can assure you that you'll never see the roms you named in the list. They weren't "scene released" and they aren't part of the pocketheaven release list so they won't get added. Simple really.
"perfectly good ROMs, that play fine, and are able to be bought in your local WalMart" makes no difference. Besides the fact that i don't have a local WalMart, those games are already in the list. Not those specific dumps, sure, but the actual games are there already.
Last time i checked [!] indicated that the rom was a verified (exact same dump by several people) working rom.
"Not sure why GBARenamer is missing all these ROMs... even though it has newer ones in it's database..." because if i added every single rom that it's "missing" there would be a whoooole lot more than there are now. There are often a lot of different dumps of the same game, these are the [a*] roms you seem to have in your list, they are Alternate dumps.
Anyway i'm done schooling you for now, i'll leave you with the basics just in case you were at the back of the class not paying attention again. In short, GBA-Renamer follows a specific "scene"-based release list, if a rom isn't listed in that, it most likely won't get added. The roms on your list aren't, so they won't get added. If you would like to collect every single different dump of a game, i suggest you try another tool such as GoodGBA.
One last thing before i go though, do you really have 400+ gba carts? Cause if not, i'm sure Nintendo would like to know why you have all those roms... |

First, what kind of scene are you on, when you don't have games like NFL 2004, Pokemon, DragonBall Z, and Super Mario Advance on your lists? Those are top rated games, over million plus sellers...
In my "Known List" I have 401 ROMs, and "Unknown List" I have 65... pretty soon I'll have the entire set, all 1948, unless of course a few come out before I get my set...
If you'd like any, feel free to ask... I'll even give you header info to update GBARenamer... so you can have "non-scene" games like Mario, or Pokemon listed as well...
I'd really like to know what you mean when you call these games "not "scene released"... do you mean European released?
Oh, and I know you don't have a WalMart in England yet, but just wait... you'll feel the wrath of the WalMart soon... |

Note: 'Scene Releases' are ones that were released by 'Scene Groups' so they may have intros and things attached, this will make there checksum different to the exact same game if you bought it in a store and dumped it yourself. (If you dont know what a checksum is LOOK IT UP) |

First, what kinda crack are you smoking? Check the list, there are games like
1131 - Madden NFL 2004 (U)(Intro Hack)(Mode7)
1636 - Pokemon - Fire Red (U)(Squirrels)
0434 - Dragon Ball Z - The Legacy Of Goku (U)(Intro Hack)(Mode7)
and
0025 - Super Mario Advance (U)(Eurasia)
they are already on the list, like i told you before

Why would that matter to you how many units they sell, since you are so obviously pirating the games anyway.

GBA-Renamer doesn't use "header info" to recognise games, it uses checksums. That means it recognises a very specific version of a rom, not every variant of it. The games you mentioned were scene released and they are on the release list, just not the specific versions that you have.
One last point before i try and find a "simple guide the the scene" for you...
| Quote: | - No ROMs
Pocketheaven.com does NOT offer roms on its servers. It is an information resource.
Any user found to be linking to roms, sites with roms, requesting roms, offering to send roms, or giving detailed explanations on where or how to get roms, will be issued a warning and any posted links will be removed. In most cases the thread will also be shut down.
There are no repeated warnings. You will be issued one warning for the lack of compliance. A second offense will result in an account removal and the possible banning of your IP from our servers.
This of course refers to copyrighted commercial roms, as well as any other copyrighted material, like warez or mp3s. If you are unsure if what you are posting is copyrighted or not, don't post it. Moderators will use their discretion in judging each case. |
Consider that your warning for lack of compliance. If you wanna collect thousands of illegal roms then thats your choice, but i don't want you offering to send them to people via this forum. |

Another thing is that titles other than commercial releases are missing, meaning that for example, possibly the best versions of Tetris for the GBA are intentionally excluded. Will there be another dat file based on the collections available at pdroms.de or zophar.net?
| Quote: | | There are often a lot of different dumps of the same game, these are the [a*] roms you seem to have in your list, they are Alternate dumps. |
Sometimes the [a*] are alternate dumps of one ROM, one being good and the rest being bad but who knows which; sometimes they're actually alternate versions of the program. For instance, the NES games Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, and Super Mario Bros. 3 are known to exist in at least two versions each, possibly to fix program bugs or text mistranslations. Once the scene learns which CRCs come up most often when dumping copies of a given title, the rest will become bad dumps: it'll go from [a1], [a2], [a3], [a4], [a5] to say (PRG 0) [!], (PRG 1) [!], [b3], (Prototype), [b5].
| Quote: | | In short, GBA-Renamer follows a specific "scene"-based release list |
I don't seem to understand what it takes for a new group to get into this "scene", to get its release's .nfo file onto the scene information sites such as NFOrce.nl, because over 70 semi-public BitTorrent trackers won't take anything that isn't listed on NFOrce, and NFOrce doesn't have a public or semi-public upload form.

Which sort of goes along with the suggestion of creating another .dat file with the latest known-working-on-hardware version of each (PD) game. _________________ -- Where is he?

In that case, if NFOrce follows only the large-scale infringement scene, I don't see any substantial non-infringing use for a BT tracker that follows NFOrce, and I almost support the MPAA's efforts to tear them down.
| Quote: | | GoodGBA includes PD roms, so just use that instead. Or make your own dat already, no one is stopping you. |
Is the dat format well documented? If so, then this dispute becomes a question of scope, and I'll quit bugging PH and instead go bug the pdroms.de people to make a dat. _________________ -- Where is he?
