|
|
The preview-alpha version of SNEmulDS 0.6 is now available for all the brave testers around the world!
The GUI artworks are not ready, so you have a "naked" and not very pretty GUI, but at least, you have the multi languages support!
You can check if your language is correct.
You can choose one of the language in the firmware or some language by editing the snemul.cfg :
# Language of GUI
# -1 -> Use firmware settings
Firmware languages:
# 0 -> Japanese (Katakana only)
# 1 -> English
# 2 -> French
# 3 -> German
# 4 -> Italian
# 5 -> Spanish
Non firmware languages:
# 106 -> Portuguese
# 107 -> Catalan
# 108 -> Polish
# 109 -> Dutch
# 110 -> Danish
Various External RAM packages can be used to improve large rom emulation, see snemul.cfg for more informations.
Scaling support has three modes :
- Full screen : nearly like snezzids
- Half scaling : "smart" scaling, only reduce half the backgrounds, and doesn't squish sprites. It looks quite fine in games.
- No scaling : no scaling at all, classic SNEmulDS mode, still default
Here is the complete list of changes compated to 0.5 beta:
- New GUI using framebuffer for sub screen
- Better human interface, improved file selector (alphabetical sorted), buttons, check boxes, multi choose zones, etc.
- New GUI supports joypad (joypad is not supported when emulator is running however).
- Multi language support (more than 10 supported, including katakan japanese !)
- Memory pak support (Opera RAM, Slot 2 card reader, etc. using libram) with paging or with large ROM mapping
- Scaling with pseudo bi-linear filtering and sprites squishing : full screen scaling (like snezzids), half scaling (half scaled and without sprites squishing), and no scaling (classic snemulds mode)
- Autiomatic SRAM saving when needed
- Some other bugfixes and improvements in GUI

w00t, great to have you back Archiede! Looking forward to playing the DKC games without the lag from the paging system.
Thanks for the continued support.
EDIT: Hm, it appears that any large games that attempt to use the external RAM don't work on my Supercard miniSD. For instance:
| Quote: | Loading /SNES/Chrono Trigger.smc...
ptr=0x206ad90...
Use External RAM
Load at 3146240, 1048576
Load at 0, 3146240
Large ROM detected. CRC(1Mb)=f6959a81
Title: CHRONO TRIGGER
Size: 4194816 bytes
ROM Type: HiROM
Country: NTSC |
It freezes at this point. Even if I change the snemul.cfg file to use the old method, it still attempts to use the external RAM and freezes.
Testing with smaller games for the moment, the GUI is more user-friendly, which is good, though it takes a bit more effort to access advanced settings. Nothing too major though.

"Memory pak support (Opera RAM, Slot 2 card reader, etc. using libram) with paging or with large ROM mapping"
Does this support all Slot-2 RAM paks (Official pak, EZ 3 -in-1, M3, Supercard) or just certain ones? _________________ My Rig:

For informations about the library that unlock the external RAM:
This is a library that eases the initialization and usage of the External RAM that is available on some Slot-2 devices.
Currently supported are:
* Supercard (32MB)
* M3 (32MB)
* Opera (8MB)
* EZ3/4/3-in-1 (8-16MB)
* G6 (32MB)

@dantheman: do you use your supedcard minisd as an external memory or as the launcher of snemulds ? In fact i didn't try to use both at the same time, i always tried with the R4DS in my slot 1 and a M3 Slim in the slot 2. |

This is brilliant Archeide!
Street Fighter 2 Turbo now is flawless - great speed and the full-screen mode eliminates those horrible borders perfectly.
My only gripe is still with Sensible Soccer (E). The rom opens-up fine, a bit of messing around with the backgrounds and sprites enables me to see the menus, but when I play the actual game for some reason it draws a third goal onto the pitch!
The speed of the sprites, the sound and everything else seems perfect, but I need to get rid of the third goal (on the bottom half of the pitch as you play it). Any ideas anyone? I've tried messing around with all of the hacks / backgrounds / sprites but no joy as of yet.
Could you help in any way Archeide?
Thanks again for all of your totally amazing work!

Fixing the soccer games will be definitively my next goal because i received tons of requests for those games (sensible soccer / super soccer)!
I'm not a such a big fan of soccer, so that may be the reason why i don't have fixed it yet |

This is great work Archeid! Looking forward to progress! Heh! I like soccer, but don't Europeans say "football"? That makes more sense anyways. Our "football" in America barely involves using our feet except for kickoffs and field goals. The scaling's working great too. There aren't many changes in game compatibility is there? I like the GUI and now I'll see about getting a memory expansion. Is there any difference in speed if I use a card with less memory? And could I now load Tales of Phantasia into SnemulDS? Joygasm! ............sorry heh! _________________ I may not eat meat, but I have no "beef" with those who do. |

Archeide, you're the best!
If you can get Sensible Soccer to work, you will truly be God in many European people's eyes....
Keep up the fantastic work man, we all really appreciate it!

It's the launcher, since I don't have a slot-1 device to launch the games from. |

Ok i will check with my M3 slim if i have the same problems when M3Slim as a launcher. It may be an conflict between the libram and the libfat, if i forget to put an ram_unlock/ram_lock somewherE. |

Hi again Archeide,
I also have an M3 Lite, and have the exact same problem as DanTheMan above.
Whenever I go to load my Donkey Kong Country Rom, the statement DanTheMan printed above also happens and the screen freezes.
Have checked the following Roms so far:
Street Fighter II Turbo
Gradius III
Contra III (some backgrounds need twiddling to see monsters etc.)
UN Squadron
Super Tennis
Super Mario AllStars
Earthbound
Pop n Twinbee
Parodius da! (Jap)
Cybernator
Final Fight
Turtles IV
Batman Returns
The Legend of the Mystical Ninja
Zelda a Link to the Past
Super Buster Bros
The Chaos Engine (might need to change backgrounds to see menu)
NHL 94 (works with sound disabled as per usual)
R-Type III (some slight scrambling in places but doesn't last long)
Sim City
Super Metroid
Super Castlevania IV
Space Megaforce
Super Bomberman 3
Super Punchout (might need to change backgrounds for menus)
All load fine and are really, really playable. Earthbound is particularly good and a definite improvement over version 0.5, as is Castlevania IV.
Like I say, the only games I'm having any problems with at the moment are Sensible Soccer and Donkey Kong Country. Will try the other Donkey Kong games later tonight to see if they have the same problems.

great!! i can confirm that my ez4 works with the new memory allocation enabled, i love the auto sram, and i love the new gui. it seemed to be a bit less stable than before, especially when loading from savestates in buster bros., but that might just be my imagination.
thanks very much, archeide!
might i suggest a "hide" button for the unoccupied bottom middle space on the touch screen which turns the screen off? you could have it turn back on again after touching it anywhere, ala nesDS. |
