More or less a port of SMSAdvance to the NDS now under the name of S8DS, as it's a SEGA 8-bit emulator for the DS.
V0.3 changes.
*Fixed Bios handling a bit (GG games works again).

Looking good, been testing a bit further this time and the only thing I can't get running is a hack of Frogger from this page (no ROMs). The hack turns the Game Gear version of Frogger into a working Master System ROM, which he says works on actual hardware. The Aleste hack on the same page works fine in S8DS, so there must be something particular to his Frogger hack which S8 isn't fond of.
Otherwise, I've been having a ton of fun with Tails Adventures, thanks for the update. _________________ I've got nothing to say, but it's OK.

Not my fault.
It doesn't work on a real SMS with ToToTek card at least.
But you can run it on a GG in SMS mode (choose GG HW in S8DS), it also seem to work on my MD with PowerBase converter not sure if it works on S8DS in MD mode. _________________ 0x5AB07A6E |

Oh well, running it in Game Gear mode is fine by me.
In a similar vein, some emulators (by some I mean "at least one", eSMS 1.04; specifically 1.04, if you want to try it it's under Emulation > Configuration > Master System screen) allow setting video modes separately, such that you can play Game Gear games, with Game Gear palettes, on a Master System "screen" (resolution). It works with surprisingly little glitching, check out the below shots of Tails Adventures and Sonic Triple Trouble. Any chance of adding similar functionality in S8DS? Personally, I didn't grow up with Sega consoles, so this is incredible stuff to me, but I can see how it might upset purists.
Just to clarify, the above screenshots are Game Gear exclusive games running in full colour and high (comparatively) resolution, which just happens to be the same resolution as a DS screen, meaning that on a DS, these would run full screen. _________________ I've got nothing to say, but it's OK.

SMSAdvance had that feature when you turned off the GG Border. _________________ Here come the fortune cookies! Here come the fortune cookies!

I'll look into fixing the option for GG borders.
I've fixed the Bios handling for MD so Frogger works as it does on my hardware.
Not sure when the next release will be though. _________________ 0x5AB07A6E |

That might apply more to games that were Game Gear exclusive in the Northern Hemisphere and released on SMS in Brazil,[1] or Game Gear games that otherwise reused most of an engine from an SMS game. Otherwise, you might get artifacts at the edge of the ordinarily hidden part of the screen.
[1] Brazil keeps old console platforms around longer due to import tariffs, VAT, and IPI that add up to a 150% tax on imported consumer electronics. _________________ -- Where is he?

In the readme it says that there are certain things missing from the emu....how many of those will eventually be added in and how necessary are they? The only one that is obvious to me is the speech. Just curious.
Anyway, this latest version is running better than ever. Kudos! |

Incidentally, is there a way to get [Bios] Alex Kidd in Miracle World (UE) running currently? I tried just loading it as a game, and also tried setting it as a BIOS, but the most I can get out of it is the Sega logo, can't seem to play the game itself (I'm aware that there's dumps of the cartridge versions, but I specifically want to play this one). _________________ I've got nothing to say, but it's OK.

The problem is that I try to figure out the region of the game (when region is set to auto), so if there is no game loaded it won't find any region info and then use Japan as that is the most compatible region (for SG-1000 and MARK III games which doesn't have region info).
So.
You have to set the region manually before turning on the machine. _________________ 0x5AB07A6E |
