GoodTools is a common name for set of Rom Renamers for a wide variety of systems. Created by Cowering, they are distributed as .exe files with a built in database. The GoodTools are some of the oldest rom renamers still in existance.

Each tool is named after the system it handles, GoodGBA handles GBA roms, GoodGBx handles Gameboy and GBC roms etc.

You run the .exe in a directory with rom files and it changes the names of the files so you can identify the known good roms, hence the Good* names.

GoodTools pioneered the use of a system of codes, called GoodCodes, at the end of filenames to identify what kind of rom it is. GoodCodes include country codes like (U) for games from the US, (J) for roms from Japan, etc, as well as codes like [b] for Bad Dump and [t] for roms that's been patched with a Trainer etc. Variants of this system is still in use by most rom renamers.
