WAB is the abbreviation for We Are Back, relating the group members who have returned from the Amiga days to develop tools for new systems, specifically the Sony PSP. WAB is not a Release Group as they have never released any games, but they are a coding group, famous for being the first prolific PSP group within the PSP Scene, but also famous to everyone else due to their incredibly controversial history and members.
WAB was created by AloneTrio in late 2001 but never actually did anything until the PSP was released, which AloneTrio discovered the untouched possibilities of the PSP, so because of his former coding experience in the Amiga scene, AloneTrio began working on the PSP.
AloneTrio's first creation was a small demo called the "Display Pic", this demo gained great success throughout the PSP Scene as it was the first demo and marked the start of something. Soon several other people joined and WAB grew into a large group consisting of over ten members.
This is when things started to go wrong for AloneTrio. Website PS2NFO began to release tools claiming they were created by them, but these tools were all just beta versions of tools created by WAB members. This sparked a war between PS2NFO and WAB, but not from conflict, but from news website coverage exploiting the conflict.
For several weeks PS2NFO kept releasing WAB tools under their own name. Then on July 4th, PS2NFO released a ISO Memory Stick Launcher - it was later found out that it was stolen from WAB and renamed to make it look like PS2NFO created it. This act went over the line and so WAB retaliated, AloneTrio began an internal investigation into his group members, he quickly found out there was a rat amongst them, that member was discharged from the group and then PS2NFO suddenly stopped producing stolen tools.
AloneTrio and two Paradox members created another intro, this called called the "FuckTro" this intro unveiled the truth as well as some harsh words to PS2NFO. The conflict was quickly disputed after that and now both parties are living in peace.
Website 1Emulation held a PSP themed radio show, which included special guests, website owners and several PSP Scene group members. Speculation was arising that there would be an on air fight between WAB and PS2NFO, but nothing happened. Although the radio show was quite successful.
Later on WAB formed an alliance with fellow PSP Group PSP-Dev, together they began to co-operate working on the WAB Memory Stick Launcher V3. But then some conflict arose between WAB member Yoshihiro and PSP-DEV so they stopped working with each other and released the Memory Stick Launcher as V2 stating that V3 had never really existed.
A few weeks had passed and then WAB posted some news that they were working on a PSP Firmware Down Grader. Their goal was to downgrade 1.5x and 2.0 PSP's and this sparked some controversy on news websites as WAB were being very vague on the details.
Then, a few weeks before the European PSP launch, WAB opened up a PayPal donation page claiming they needed donations in order to purchase a new Sony PSP from Europe with the 1.52 firmware to test their downgrader. Many people donated money for the cause.
Rumors began to surface that Yoshihiro quit WAB and that the Down Grader was fake, but WAB quickly asserted everyone that those rumors were false and so AloneTrio and Yoshihiro posted pictures of themselves on their website, this was just another nail in the coffin that was going to tarnish WAB.
On the 5th of September, 2005, Yoshihiro released a video of the down grader in action. Everyone loved to see the progress, but then on the 9th AloneTrio's brother reported that AloneTrio was arrested but then he was released on the next day. Many people said it was a hoax, just to further delay the down grader.
The public were getting angry and then on the 23rd of September, 2005 AloneTrio announced that discharge of Yoshihiro from WAB and released some information about the group and Yoshihiro's action. The people had enough, it was the final straw and then WAB lost its respect by all. Yoshihiro had moved onto creating his own group (SonyxTeam)continually working on the claimed-to-be-fake down grader.
